Catherine Adams Rankin

Cathy was born July 13, 1966, in Texas and graduated from Jacksonville State University with a BS in Nursing in 1988. She immediately began a long and fulfilling career as an oncology nurse at UAB. In almost 30 years of service, Cathy loved and cared for thousands of patients. Serving her patients brought her immense joy. In 2017 she was honored by UAB for her Excellence in Nursing.

In 2020, the Lord allowed Cathy to marry the love of her life, Brian Rankin. Though they were blessed with only 3 short years of marriage, those years were filled with incredible memories and adventures. Brian was a faithful and dedicated caregiver as he cared for his wife during her illness. He was truly an example of the Godly husband Paul described in Ephesians 5 “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

Cathy was a humble and dedicated wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and nurse. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father George Burton Adams, Jr., and Grandmother Evelyn Jones. She is survived by her husband Brian Rankin; mother Marie Adams, brother Rev. Steve Adams and wife Rhonda, nieces Haley Adams Garrison, Hannah Marie Scharven, Meghan Faith Adams, and nephew George Stephen Adams, Jr. and sister-in-law Sandra Rankin.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held Saturday October 14, 2023, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 with a service to immediately follow. The service will be officiated by Rev. Steve Adams and Dr. Bill Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Children’s Ministry at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
