Despite his father walking out on his family when he was just a boy, Wallace, as his mother and closest relatives called him, leveraged the big chip on his shoulder to become quite accomplished. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when he was only 17, advanced from Private to Sergeant, then was selected for and completed flight school to become a Naval Aviator and commissioned officer.
While serving our country in uniform for over 22 years, Bo earned his high school diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, was combat-wounded twice in Vietnam for which he was awarded two Purple Heart medals, earned a Bronze Star medal with Combat “V”, married, and raised two children. After retiring from the USMC as “Major” Bo, he worked a wide variety of jobs before ultimately being called to the priesthood.
Reverend/Major Bo was also much more than his myriad accomplishments. Throughout most of this life, for 61 years to be precise, he was a husband to my mother, Pat. He was also a father to Captain Daniel E. Braswell, USN retired, and Patricia Lynne Braswell, now Patricia L. Nelson. Bo is survived by his son and daughter; their six children (Dan's: Benjamin, Charles, and Madelyn; Lynne's: Dalton, Nathan, and Clarissa); and multiple great-grandchildren.
