Brenda Elaine Mitchell Coats

She was born to Ellis and Mary Mitchell on November 3, 1941, in Cordova, Alabama. Brenda was a graduate of West End High School and later Howard College with a degree in Education. She later completed her master's degree in Library Science at Samford University. She was married to the love of her life, Robert R Coats, Jr (Bob) on January 1, 1966.

Brenda loved hard. She loved the Lord. She loved her family – especially her grandchildren. She loved her friends. She loved her church. And she loved serving others. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, birds, and painting.

She has been preceded in death by her father Ellis and her mother Mary. She is survived by her husband Bob, and their 2 children Bobby Coats (Wendy) and Betsy Hart (Hollis). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren - Chris Coats (Callie), Ashlyn West (Cam), Jack Hart, Houston Hart, Taylor Hart, and her first great grandchild Audrey Hill West (due March 2023).

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Brenda’s memory to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church or Alzheimer’s Association.

A memorial service will take place at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. A committal service will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
