She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 9, 1931 to the late John B. Ponder, Sr. and Sarah Jane Moore Ponder. Beverly attended Birmingham Southern, Peabody College (Nashville) and UAB. She was a teacher at Mountain Brook Jr. High School for almost 30 years.
Along with her parents, Beverly is also preceded in death by her son, Larry D. Striplin III; granddaughter, Megan Weevil; son-in-law, Jerry D. Victor; brother, John B. Ponder, Jr (Mary Joyce); and husband, Bob Brandau.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 16 years, Robert A. “Bob” Rives; her children, David R. Striplin (Isabelle), Cynthia S. Victor, and Janet Nottrodt (Clay); stepchildren, Mark Rives (Lee), John Rives (Renee), Robyn Rives, and Margaret Rives Galloway; her brother, Charles Ponder; grandchildren, Scott Fussell (Annemarie), Lauren Striplin, Beverly Carter, Katie Rives, Holly Tubbs (Brandon), Taylor Striplin (Libby), Christy Lynch (Michael), and Barrett Striplin; great-grandchildren, Landon Rives, Lilly Belle Smith, Kaitlyn Rives, Clifton Tubbs, and Olivia Lynch; loving friend, Manessa Love; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon with a graveside service following at 1:00 pm at Ridout’s Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum.
