PEKIN ~ Virginia “Ginny” Schwinn, 80, of Pekin, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on October 7, 2024 at Brandonwood Retirement Home in Morton, where she resided at for the past five years where her friends and the staff became her extended family.
Born December 22, 1943 in Peoria, she married Gottfried Edward Schwinn on February 25, 1962 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Peoria. He died June 11, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Harvella (Amick) Smith; two sons, Ed Schwinn and Steve Schwinn; nine siblings, Judy Multhaup, Larry Smith, Jean Ann Wilcox, Mary Hall, Gerey Myers and Betty Robinson, Joey Smith, Jerry Smith and Kay Francis Smith and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Schwinn.
Surviving are her daughter, Christine (Derek) Hamm of Hanna City; four grandsons, Patrick Schwinn, Connor Schwinn, Drake Hamm and Brock Hamm (Sydney Hart); four siblings, Jimmy Smith, Tony Smith, Terry Kroeker, Peggy Koch; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Schwinn and several nieces and nephews.
Ginny and Ed enjoyed camping and fishing with their family and they traveled to Germany to experience family history. They were on bowling leagues and enjoyed playing cards.
They supported their children's actives throughout their school years and were dedicated members of the Manual Booster Club.
She was loved by all for her free spirit, laughter and smiles will be missed.
Her graveside service will at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
