Born July 29, 1943 in Peoria to Vernon A. and Joanna (Hopper) Doubet, he married Rebecca “Becky” Leigh Lamer on April 11, 1962.
Vernon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Becky, on February 11, 2023 in Pekin. He was also preceded by his parents and three half-sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Tamara Lynn “Tammy” (Mark) Banks of Portland, Texas; two sons, Doug (Nicole J. Reese) Doubet of Peoria and William “Bill” (Kimberly) Doubet of Washington; twelve grandchildren, Tiffany Gardner, Mike Nutt, Sandra Banks, Brad Doubet, Catlyn Slavens, David Doubet, Luke Doubet, Erin Nisewonger, Katie Heinold, Jeremy Banks, Mark Banks and Rachel Collins; thirty-six great-grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great-grandsons and one sister, Judy K. Bess of Decatur.
Vernon was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for over 30 years retiring in 1995.
Vernon enjoyed golfing and playing pool. His family called him a pool shark and agreed he was talented enough to have played professionally. He loved his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and always enjoyed attending their sporting events.
He was an active and longtime member of the Grace Baptist Church in rural Pekin and was always ready and willing to share his faith.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Josh Beutow will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
