Marilyn J Hayes

Born September 26, 1933 in Pekin to Richard Justus and Mildred Almena (Green) Cunningham, she married Wayne Leroy Hayes on May 9, 1954 in Pekin. He died February 9, 2014 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Christy L. Hayes on June 1, 2017 in Lawton, Oklahoma and two brothers, John Paul Cunningham and Richard B. Cunningham.

Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Jay) Greener of Deerfield; six grandchildren, Shane (Stacey) Hayes and Joshua (Autumn) Hayes, both of Pekin, Elijah Hayes of Manito, Jonathan (Emily) Greener of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Caitlin Greener of Highwood and Nicholas Greener of Deerfield; five great-grandchildren, Gavin Lohnes, Phoenix Hayes, Jude Greener, Silas Greener and Owen Greener and one brother, Carl David Cunningham of Pekin.

She was a 1951 graduate of Pekin Community High School.

Marilyn worked in the office of Cohen Furniture Company, retiring in 1956. With the arrival of children, she became a stay-at-home mom. She was involved in the children’s school activities as a room mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.

She was a member of North Parkway Assembly of God in Pekin, where she had sang in ensembles, the church choir, taught Sunday school, and led Bible studies and prayer groups. She was a member of the Women’s Aglow Fellowship, serving as vice-president, worship leader and prayer chairman. She also was a member of the Christian Writers Guild. She was a writer, having articles published in Christian magazines.

Her hobbies were flower gardening, sewing, oil painting, and biking.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Canon Jay L. Greener, her son-in-law, will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
