Born May 3, 1962 in Charleston to Joe Lee and Nancy Jo (Covert) Clapp, she married Larry Karnes on September 18, 1993 in Spring Lake.
Surviving are her husband of 29 years; four step-daughters, Faith (Alex) Peters of South Pekin, Hope Smith of Pekin, Luv Howe of Bloomington and Cindy Karnes of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one step-son, Lyle (Donjell) Karnes of Spring Lake; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leslie (Larry) Durham of Chehalis, Washington and LeeAnne Clapp of Mattoon and two brothers, Mark Clapp of Oakland and Michael Clapp of Hindsboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Amanda Clapp.
Dee was a 1979 graduate of Oakland High School, graduated from Lake Land Community College with a business degree and worked at Mid-State College in the Business Office for many years. Dee had owned and operated Larry’s Restaurant and Family Bar in Spring Lake with her husband for 20-plus years. She last worked at Darcy's Gaming in Pekin.
An avid Chicago Bears fan, Dee was an adventurous spirit, especially when she visited her sister on the West Coast. She also enjoyed traveling, taking photos and had a heart for animals. She was the caregiver to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A gathering celebrating Dee’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
