Born November 5, 1948 in Peoria to Arthur Raymond and Helen Marie (LeForge) Turner, he married Rosetta Carson on September 4, 1971 in Canton, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years; two daughters, Heather (Bryan) Hurst of Pekin and Holly Turner of Paris, Ohio; three grandchildren, Anthony Klaybor and John Klaybor, both of Canton, Ohio and Madison Hurst of Machesney Park and one sister, Peggy Lee (Paul Jenkins) Schnarr of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, who raised him, Norman Lee Schnarr.
Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany.
Larry retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in September 2001 after 31 years working as a laborer. Following retirement he drove a bus for Tazewell County Head Start.
He was a life member and past Commander of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 in Pekin. He also had served as a past service officer for the post. Larry was a member of Tremont American Legion Post 1236 and a former member of George Maple AMVETS 235 in Pekin. Larry’s favorite hobby was model railroading and he was a life member of the National Model Railroad Association. Larry played dartball in the Pekin Churchmen’s League for many years and was a past president of the league.
He was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Daniel J. Bishop will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Tazewell Military Rites Team, P.O. Box 333, Tremont, Illinois 61568.
