Born November 28, 1943 in Peoria to Clarence and Rita (Hobe) McCulley, he married Nancy Craine on February 20, 1965 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Marci McCulley of Pekin; one son, Marc (Melinda) McCulley of Canton; five grandchildren, Kristen Helmig, Sandra Scroggs, David Runyon, Marc A. McCulley and Alycia Runyon; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Bay of Pigs Invasion, serving from 1962 to 1966.
He was firefighter for the City of Pekin for 28 years, retiring in 1996.
Gary was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Local 524 of the International Association of Firefighters, and William Schaefer American Legion Post #44, all in Pekin, and was a 43 year member of the Pekin Boat Club. He was former member of the Business Men’s Tuesday Bowling League and Sunday Boat Club Bowling Team.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, cooking and tinkering in his garage.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Deacon Ausencio Vargas will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin with military rites provided by the United States Navy and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Firefighter honors will be provided by the Pekin Fire Department Honor Guard.
