Born March 16, 1905 in Pekin to William Clarence and Anna Barbara Swoboda Weghorst, he married Minnie G. Waldmeier on May 5, 1929 in Pekin. She died on July 21, 1971 in Pekin. He later married Lela I. Kinkade on March 6, 1976 in Bartonville. She died January 24, 1988 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter; 5 brothers; and 1 sister.
Surviving are 1 son, Joseph (Sandy) Weghorst of Pekin; 1 step-son, Robert Kinkade of Bloomington; 4 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Weghorst last worked as a custodian for Pekin School District #108 for 12 years, retiring in 1971. Previously, he had farmed in rural Tazewell County from 1959-71; worked in the nail mill at Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville; worked at Corn Products Corporation in Pekin, where he was a survivor of the January 1924 explosion and fire; and worked at his father's grocery store in Pekin.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
He enjoyed woodworking, landscape painting, and fishing with his grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 23, 2006at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.,Friday, December 22, 2006 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel and 30 minutes prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito.
