Edward Underwood Bond III, age 62, was born November 11, 1959 in Chanute, Kansas and died September 26, 2022 in Peoria, Illinois. The youngest son of Edward U. and Annie E. (Provorse) Bond, he was named for his father.
After graduating from Manhattan Christian College in 1982, Ed served as a pastor at Greeley Christian Church, then planted a new church, Christ’s East Valley Church, in Mesa, Arizona. Though Ed left the professional ministry after attaining his Ph.D. in Marketing from Arizona State University, he would continue his lifelong passion for helping people find and follow Christ, first as a worship leader at Richwoods Christian Church, then as an elder at the same.
Ed’s deep sense of service to others affected all that knew him. In his twenty-five years as a professor of marketing at Bradley University, generations of students discovered that Ed truly did care. Never too busy for a student, he frequently responded to questions late into the night, and many a student left a meeting with Ed long after its scheduled close. Both as a professor and as chair of the department of marketing, he found great joy in launching people toward their potential. No part of his life exemplified this joy more than as a parent to his children. Updates on the lives of both Carissa and Brian were a staple in conversation with his friends.
Ed was a devoted father and loving husband. He is survived by Linda J. Bertrand whom he married on December 12, 1981, his children Carissa Bond of Dunlap, IL, and Brian Bond of Peoria, IL, his brother Richard T. Bond and wife Linda (Kreipe) of Topeka, KS, and one sister-in-law Diane and husband Kirk, of North Platte, NE. He is survived by nieces and nephews: Kari Donovan and husband Mike of Denver, CO, Nolle Bond and wife Libby of Kansas City, MO, Jaci Bertrand and husband Matt of Atlanta, GA, Jill Harman and husband Mark of Fremont, NE, and Kent Livingston and wife Sharon of Indianapolis, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward U. and Annie E. (Provorse) Bond, and his brother James E. Bond.
His bright and energetic personality, zeal for life, and love of fun will be missed by his family, his many friends, and all those who crossed his path.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Richwoods Christian Church in Peoria, Illinois. Pastor Jim Powell and Pastor Marty Hunt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the church and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday morning at the church. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum & Cemetery in Peoria.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
