She was born October 18, 1930 in Pekin to Alfard and Marguerite (Hilst) Mabee, she married Arthur Willis Stewart on October 28, 1948 in Pekin. He died March 14, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth Mabee, Alfard Mabee, Jr. and Stanley Mabee and one sister-in-law, Eileen Mabee.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth Stewart of Tacoma, Washington, Arthur (Sandy) Stewart of Pekin and Clint (Betsy) Stewart of Tremont; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Doris worked at the Pekin Daily Times in the mailroom, doing office work for 25 years before retiring in 1991. She then worked in the fabric department at Walmart Supercenter in Pekin.
She loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, traveling and attending her grandchildren’s ball games.
Doris was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Louie Dalton will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
