Born September 17, 1947 in Decatur to Clarence Lewis and Mildred (Copenhaver) Sies, she married Bobby Allen “Pappy” Scott on July 3, 1976 in North Pekin. He died June 20, 2021 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Lewis Scott and Rev. Christopher Sies.
Surviving are two step-daughters, Donna Freeman of Pekin and Patti Moehle of Washington; one step-son, Mark (Liz) Scott of Snoqualmie, Washington; nine grandchildren, Samantha (Cody) Null of Pekin, whom she raised, Wednesday (Edward) Tangman, Karisa Sies, Austin (Jessica) Butler, Adriana Davis, Lilly Johnson, Jennifer (Cheryl Ferguson) Freeman, Adam (Trina) Freeman and Andrew Groves; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Harry (Nancy) Sies, Sr. of Marquette Heights and one sister, Theresa Sies of East Peoria.
A 1966 graduate of Pekin Community High School, Betty also attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She worked for Wal-Mart for 25 years, retiring in May of 2011. She had worked 19 years at the Pekin store and then 6 years in Morton. She worked as a cashier, customer service manager, personnel and with the support team.
Betty was passionate about volunteering with the American Cancer Society and served on the planning committee for Relay for Life in Pekin and Morton for many years. She had served on the Pekin Public Schools District 108 Board of Education and Pekin Community High School District 303 Board of Education.
She was an active member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, where she was involved in the Children’s Ministry for more than 40 years and served as the director of Vacation Bible School for 18 years.
Betty was devoted to her family and loved supporting her grandchildren as Show Choir Mammy when they were involved with Noteables and Intuition. She also enjoyed bowling in the Tuesday Church League with her husband for many years.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Brian Eatock and Pastor W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
