He was born June 30, 1944 in Pekin to Albert and Ruth (Jackson) Hayes. His father preceded him in death.
Surviving are his mother, Ruth Hornbaker of Glasford; two sons, John Hayes and Tony (Nancy) Hayes, both of Pekin; one daughter, Janette (Thomas) Durbin of Creve Coeur; one granddaughter; three grandsons; one sister, Barb of Glasford and one brother, Mike Hayes of Lincoln.
Alfred worked as a line welder at Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 30 years.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, 11th Armored Cavalry Black Horse regiment during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of Illinois Black Horse Association. He also was an avid fisherman.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
