She was born on February 24, 1927 in Simpson County to the late Luther H. Sullivan and Ada Layton Sullivan. Wilma was a dedicated homemaker and had true skill and artistry with her domestic talents. In particular, she loved to sew and her aptitude for her craft also meant creating her own sewing patterns for the items she produced. Wilma provided all her children's clothing; in addition, she was the dedicated seamstress for the Pearl Fire Department upon its establishment, taking care of all the alterations and affixing patches for every uniform.
Wilma was a resourceful, hard worker who was grateful for everything, never asking for much out of life. She was a simple country girl who had a very fulfilling life of helping others, even during her childhood which included tending to her mother when she fell ill. Wilma was gifted with a green thumb and under her care, could revive seemingly dead plants. Spending time working on her flower beds brought her great pride and joy. She had a natural flair for telling stories to anyone and loved to share from her experiences growing up. Even as her life on Earth drew to a close, Wilma entertained the nurses who could listen to her for hours.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Cecil Kennedy.
Wilma is survived by her son, Don Kennedy; daughter, Sandra Kershaw; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
