Katherine was born April 13, 1926 in Durant, MS to Cecil Bowlin and Ella McElveen Bowlin.
She graduated from Forest Hill High School in Jackson in 1946.
After High School she worked at Kennington’s Department Store in Jackson, then with Magnolia Life Insurance Company.
She married Jack Beatty of Puckett in 1953 in Norfolk, VA where his Naval unit was stationed at the time.
After the Korean War ended the couple moved back to Mississippi, built their first home in South Jackson and raised their two children while Jack served 33 years with the Jackson City Fire Department.
She was a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church since 1964, where she was a former member of the adult choir.
Katherine worked for Standard Life Insurance Company in claims and then with USF&G Insurance Company claims until her retirement in 1991.
She was a long time member of the American Business Women’s Association, holding the office of Treasurer, and of Hospitality Chairman, and being named Woman of the Year in 1994.
She loved flower gardening, occasional sewing, reading house & garden type magazines and traveling. And she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very family oriented, keeping up with her relatives and taking lots of photos.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her 2 brothers, Cecil Bowlin of Hazlehurst and Gene Bowlin of Jackson, and by her husband of 50 years, Jack Beatty.
She is survived by her son, David Beatty of Puckett; daughter, Joy Parker of Lascassas, TN; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm, Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
