Jan Paul Webb, 79, of Pearl MS, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. Paul was born September 11, 1943 in San Antonio TX to Homer Lamar Webb and Byrdie Snell Webb. He was the oldest of four children. He grew up in Greenville MS, graduating high school in 1961. After high school, he joined the United States Navy. After his service, he relocated to Jackson MS. He worked for AM Multigraphics for 40 years. He was an exceptional and well respected employee. You could probably count on your hands the number of days he missed work in those 40 years. He had a super strong work ethic and was a wonderful provider for his family. He was also once part owner of Southern Speed and Custom in South Jackson, which fulfilled his dream of having his own speed shop. From an early age, he was curious about all things mechanical. Always taking things apart and putting them back together again just to see how they worked. However, his biggest mechanical passion was cars. In his younger days, he was well known in the race car community in West and South Jackson. He had a vast knowledge of engines and could diagnose and fix just about anything on them. He owned some of the finest tuned race cars around and was known for doing wheel-stands down the local drag strip, The Riverside Raceway, in his 1962 black Corvette. In later years, he owned and collected antique show cars. He won many trophies for his cars. He was a former member of the Big River Classic Car Club.
Some of his other likes included: Elvis Presley, listening to the rain, his homemade peanut butter candy, finding things to fix around his house or letting you know what you needed to fix at your house, going on cruises with his family, sitting outside on a pretty day and having one of his one on one life talks with you, pulling pranks on his family and friends, telling dirty jokes, getting together with his siblings and cousins to visit and laugh about the good old days, going out to eat with his three daughters, spending time with his grandchildren...and last but not least, he enjoyed always being right...which we had to admit, he usually was.
Paul was a family man. He loved his family with all his heart. He adored his children and had great pride and joy for all of his grandchildren. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren and being a part of their lives. They believed he could fix or build anything. They will carry the things he taught them with them for the rest of their lives. He was always there for his family whether you needed something big or just a shoulder to cry on. He would go over and beyond to help. He truly was an intelligent, handsome, unique man with an awesome sense of humor. Not a day will go by that he will not be thought of and missed and loved beyond words.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Byrdie Webb and also his beloved granddaughter, Lauren Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy (Hodges) Webb. His children, Paula May (Bobby), Pam Milam (Dave), Billy Sumrall (Candice) and Nikki Scarborough (Jacob). His grandchildren, Steven Webb, Daniel Freeman, Gunner Sumrall, Bailee Scarborough, Brooklyn Scarborough and Brandon Scarborough. His great grandchildren, Kyler, Holden, Leighton and Braelynn. His brothers, Terry Webb and Billy Webb (Tracy) and sister Marilyn Allen. He is also survived by numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Celebration of Life Services will follow at 6:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
