She was born January 21, 1936, in Bartlesville, Washington County, Oklahoma, a daughter of the late Cecil R. Smith and Edaline Coulter Smith.
She attended Oklahoma State University and was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the Master’s Program at the University of Tulsa. During college she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a proud alumni for life.
Ms. Turner was a teacher and reading specialist for 38 years. Her career spanned from 1958 until her retirement in 1996, during which she taught elementary level in Tulsa Public Schools and college level courses at the University of Tulsa, and at Oral Roberts University. Her last teaching position was at Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa, where the street for the school was renamed Helen Turner Lane in recognition of her dedicated service to education.
Ms. Turner was an active member of Victory Church in Tulsa. She loved her church and her church family, and was a devoted Prayer Warrior. Truly a sweet angel, she will best be remembered for her kind spirit and delightful soul.
Survivors include her son Christopher C. Turner and his wife Rene; grandchildren, William Parker and Kate Sandbak; great-grandchildren, Keaton and Bentley Sandbak; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Victory Church, 7700 S Lewis Avenue, Tulsa, OK.
