He was born on October 31, 1948 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Arthur Joseph Hennington, Sr and Wilma Sullivan Hennington. Edward graduated from Provine High School with the class of 1966; as a young man, he rode motorcycles and had a bit of a rebellious streak. Soon, however, Edward gave his life over to God and serving others, joining the Army National Guard and working at the Mississippi State Hospital for 34 years as a systems analyst. A faithful member of McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church, he kept active in several areas of the Church, from the Methodist Men, the food pantry, and the backpack ministry. Edward loved the Lord and was a devoted servant carrying out work in His name. Edward also cherished his family; in his early years, he coached softball and felt such pride and joy guiding his own daughters in the sport. Recent years were spent doting on his great-grandchildren. As an avid fisherman, Edward was happy spending his free time on the water and enjoyed going on cruises as well.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Joseph Hennington, Jr and sister, Robbie Hennington Rayner.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gloria Hennington; daughters, Angela Hennington Bruff (Jim) and Amy Hennington Thompson (JJ); son, Jonathan Hollis; twin sister, Edna Hennington Minter; grandchildren, Lacey Buck (Matthew), Morgan Crouch (Josh), Heather Fountain (Sam), Brandon Woodard, and Elizabeth Nadal (Donovan); and eight great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church food pantry or backpack ministry in memory of Edward.
He will be so dearly missed.
