Dwight Cecil Jones passed away peacefully with his family on Sunday February 27, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Dwight was born in Leake County, Mississippi on May 3, 1945, as the fourth child of J. Cecil Jones and Marguerite Wright Jones. He is survived by sisters who live nearby his home in Florence, Hilda Nichols Jones (Pearl); Erma Gay Jones (Brandon) and Judith Latricia Jones (Jackson). Dwight will live in peace with his mother and father, and eldest sibling Hugh Ellis Jones who preceded him in the passing of life.
A brilliant man who studied mechanical engineering at Mississippi State University, Dwight developed the knowledge and problem-solving skills needed for his chosen career in auto mechanics. He was a student at Pearl High School and graduated with honors with the Class of 1963. During his 30-year work life, he enjoyed the challenge and precision each job required. During his studies in Starkville, Dwight served his community by joining the Mississippi Air National Guard, where he was promoted to Sergeant and in command of a team of soldiers. After seven years in this role, he was honorably discharged.
Dwight lived a contented, simple life and enjoyed spending time studying current events, hunting each season, and following NASCAR races in person or at home. In the spirit of his father who was a bluegrass musician, Dwight was passionate about music and enjoyed listening to his impressive collection of country and bluegrass music. He enjoyed conversations about world events and cooking shows and watching vintage Western movies. Dwight helped his family in many ways and was the go-to man for building, home and auto repairs.
Dwight is survived by the next generations of his family including Joe Haney (Deborah), John Richard Haney (Christy), Cyndy Kay Jones, Angela Suzanne Foster (Ronnie), Christina Anne Ware (Duane), Jaye Patrick McNinch (Melissa), Cathi Elaine Silence (Kevin), and Jeremy Paul McNinch (Staci) and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Dwight Cecil Jones will be held Wednesday March 2 from 9-11:00 a.m. at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home in Pearl (3780 US-80 East, Pearl, MS 39208). Burial Services performed by nephews Jeremy McNinch and Kevin Silence will begin at 1:30 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Walnut Grove (2387 Johnson Town Rd, Walnut Grove, MS 39189), where his grandparents Jesse Eugene Jones and Venie Tatum Jones rest.
