Charles Thomas Heller, 77, of Florence, MS, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at home, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Services will be in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Glennwood Cemetery in Richland.
After a battle with cancer and a long fight to recover, he has made it to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior. Chuck was born on September 8, 1935 in Moffett, Oklahoma and grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas. After High School Graduation, Chuck joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served the United States of America for 21 years. After retiring as Master Sergeant from his distinguished career in the United States Air Force, he began his second career of 23 years at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center, where he served as Service Chief of Fee Service, a division of Medical Administration Service.
After retirement form the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center in 1995, Chuck began raising daylilies, a hobby that over years grew to touch the lives of so many, including his grandchildren. Chuck was a long standing member of the Jackson Hemerocallis Society, where he served as Club President spanning several years. When Chuck wasn’t tending to his daylily garden of 3 acres and nearly two thousand different varieties, he enjoyed building collections of stamps and coins and he enjoyed traveling. He also was an active member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Jackson, MS.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Laura Christine (Millwood) Heller and two children, son Jason Heller and wife Genevieve of Flowood, MS and daughter Amy Ham and husband Jimmy of Richland; and four grandchildren, Payton and Lauren Ham of Richland, MS, Garrett Heller of Flowood, MS, and Hunter Johns of Flowood, MS.
