Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm, Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 11:00am, Friday, January 4, 2019, in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Bob grew up in rural Yazoo County and following high school graduation, was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 22, 1967. First Sergeant Porter served in the Vietnam War achieving the rank of SP/4. He received several medals for his service including the Bronze Star Medal, National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 2 O/S Bars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman M-14 and M-16, Second Class Gunner M-60, and Air Medal.
After returning home Bob began his career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2000.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Sylvia Porter Jackson; brothers, J.W. Porter and James Porter; and niece, Sharon Porter.
Survivors include siblings, Margie Morrow (Wilburn), Dell Rushing (Gene), Patsy Porter, Nell Brown (Mike), and Brenda Ward (John); nieces and nephews, Angela Ward, Rachel Ward Brown, Thomas Jackson, Jimmie Lee Morrow (Christine), and Doug Porter (Debbie Hemby); and a great-niece and great-nephews.
Bob saw joy in life. He cherished his family, friends, and recognized God’s grace in everything.
