Llywon Carter, affectionately known as Glen, was born on February 20, 1937 in Thomasville, Georgia. Moving to Montgomery Alabama early in life, he attended Sidney Lanier High School, the oldest high school in Montgomery. He also attended the University of Alabama. A man of many talents, he worked in the insurance industry and property recovery business before settling into a long career with the United States Postal Service. As a postal worker, he rose from mail handler to clerk to management. As a postal manager, he was eventually assigned to the Washington D.C. area before relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina. A patriot, he served several years in the U.S. Army Reserve in Alabama.
His future bride, Linda Gail (Houston) Pleasant, was the letter carrier assigned to the route where Glen lived in 1989. They found each other and married on Valentine’s Day in 1991. Shortly thereafter, Glen retired from the postal service in 1992 to pursue his post-retirement passions.
Glen was a life-long motor sport and racing fan and was also a race car driver and owner. As a young boy in Montgomery, he would peek through the fence at the Montgomery Racetrack, taking in the sights, sounds, smells of the engine noise, burning tires and exhaust. Glen and Linda honeymooned in the Bahamas, but not before taking in the Daytona 500 auto race.
Upon Linda’s retirement in 2004, Glen and Linda moved to the Villages in central Florida. There, Glen was the founder of the Villages Motor Racing Club, with a very large fan base with which Glen and Linda remained close even after they relocated to Newnan in 2018.
Here in Newnan, Glen and Linda continued their retirement years together until his death on October 10, 2024. Glen was a believer in Jesus Christ and having captured the checkered flag, he resides today with his Savior in that big winner’s circle of Heaven.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mamie Carter, and a brother, Harold Carter. He is survived by his wife, Linda, sister, Elaine (Gordon) Welch, daughters, Allison (Michael) Webb, and Lisa (Bruce) Robinson, stepsons Daniel (Michele) Pleasant and Michael (Tara) Pleasant, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
