Jeanenne Kuykendall Richards, 94, of Peachtree City/Newnan, GA passed away November 4, 2024. She was born in Birmingham, AL on July 2, 1930, the first born to the late Almond Dewey “Kurk” Kuykendall and Lucille Kuykendall Thornton.
Shortly after Jeanenne’s birth, Kurk and Lucille returned to their hometown in the West End of Atlanta. Jeanenne then became the big sister to two brothers, Jack and Richard Kuykendall. It was in the West End they grew up socializing at Mosley Park and it was there where she met the love of her life, Roy Alton Richards, at a community dance, after his return from WWII.
Jeanenne and Roy were joined in marriage on the 18th of September 1948 and remained so for 71 years prior to Roy’s passing in 2019. Jeanenne spent her life giving of herself to others. She was the mother of two, the grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of 22 and great-great grandmother of six, prior to her passing. During the last few years of her life, Jeanenne was the primary care giver for Roy, until she suffered a stroke in July of 2019, and his passing the following October.
All while being an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, professionally Jeanenne worked as a civil servant for both the Department of the Navy and the Federal Aviation Administration in Atlanta until she retired from the FAA as a Human Resource professional in 1986. Jeanenne was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and a member of Peachtree City Christian Church.
Jeanenne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brother, Richard Kuykendall. She is survived by her brother, Jack Kuykendall; children, Terri (Marvin) Childs and Mark (Gay) Richards; grandchildren, Candy (Ron) Mann, Josh (Whittney) Childs, Mariah (Brian) Banks, Ian (April) Hinton, Nancy (Jon) James, Amy Childs (Sean McGladdery), Katie Rose (Ryan) and Kelly Harrell (Randy); 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2024 in the Chapel of Carmichael Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, GA. The family will welcome family and friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Westview Cemetery, at a later date.
The family will accept flowers. However, donations to your charity of choice in Jeanenne’s memory are encouraged.
The family would like to acknowledge and give their appreciation to the management and staff of The Monarch House Assisted Living in Newnan, GA who provided exemplary care, briefly to Roy, and then to Jeanenne for the past five years.
