Al Rhyne

Al Rhyne (Hooper Alexander Rhyne to those who didn't know him), 83, passed away August 31, 2021. He passed peacefully in his own bed, in the house that he had built in 1971, having never stayed anywhere else outside his own volition. He governed his path from beginning to end.

Al was born in Decatur, GA on January 18, 1938 to the late Joyce and Albert Rhyne. He was a Navy veteran having served on aircraft carriers Ticonderoga, Bennington, and Midway. After his discharge he became a lead mechanic for Delta, retiring in 1991 after 30 years. He retired to a life of restoring classic Chevrolet cars; one of which having appeared on the cover of a magazine and others appearing in the movie Mississippi Burning. Al loved to farm & work in his shop & be around those he loved. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson trike, helping and serving others when he was able. He treasured time with his daughter, time with his neighbors, nights in the auto shop, and visits from loved ones.

Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Kay Rhyne; father, Albert Herschel Rhyne; mother, Joyce Alexander Rhyne; brother, Albert Rhyne Jr.; and several beloved friends and pets.

Al will be missed by his loving daughter, Rhonda Rhyne (husband, Landon Webster); his beloved cat, Yuma-Girl; sisters-in-law, Janis Clevenger and Karen Clevenger (husband, George Branton); nieces & nephews; and many friends that he loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sept. 19, 2021 at Locust Grove United Methodist Church. Masks are strongly encouraged.
