William “Bill” Reisz, 82 was born in Drenovac, Croatia, Europe in March 1939. He passed away at home in Paso Robles, CA on June 15th, 2021.
His parents, Kasper and Margaret Reisz, had to flee their ancestral home in Veliskovci, Croatia in 1943 when Bill was four years old at which time the family lived in various refugee camps in Austria until they were able to immigrate to the United States of America in 1951. Bill grew up in Los Angeles and attended Loyola Marymount University, graduating with a BS degree in Economics followed by post graduate work in accounting at Cal State Northridge. Having enlisted in the Navy Reserve his studies were interrupted by two tours of duty in Vietnam serving as a Chief Petty Officer 1st class. Shortly after his return from his military duties he began his 31 year career in banking and married Linda Hayes. He moved his family to Paso Robles in 1972, working for Security Pacific Bank and subsequently for 1st Interstate Bank and Citizens Bank of Paso Robles. After a stint as a district manager for the local Taco Bell's, a desire to be his own boss led Bill to start North County Sign Service in 1987. The successful business is now run by his wife Linda and their children. Bill and Linda continued to grow their large family and raised nine children together. They were married for 54 years.
Bill has been active over the years in his church, both at St Rose of Lima in Paso Robles, and at Mission San Miguel. His faith was formed by Prayer Group and the Cursillo movement and then led him to be professed in the Order of Franciscan Seculars. He also served on the board of Elder Warriors; Healing Through Reckoning and Responsibility. He was also active in many local groups over the years such as Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Reisz. His children, James and Michael Brophy, Matthew Reisz, Sandra and Christopher Prach, Marrisa and Ryan Nunez, Ruth and Mike Leonard, Rebecca and Steven Robles, John and Katy Reisz, Margaret and Grant Wittenburg. His grandchildren, Taylor and Gabby Reisz, Clayton and Phoebe Leonard, Sean Nunez, Phoenix, Gavin and Scarlet Robles, and Olivia Wittenburg. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Maria (Reisz) and Dale Springer and their son Charlie, his wife Julie and their two children, Samuel and Elizabeth.
Services will be held at Mission San Miguel on Thursday June 24th, 2021. Rosary and viewing will begin at 9:30am, funeral mass will follow at 10:30am, with a reception lunch at 12:00pm in the Mission San Miguel Parish hall. Burial will be at Morro Bay-Cayucos District Cemetery at 2:00pm.
