Linda Jean Ashton (nee Dougherty) passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 surrounded by loved ones at her home in Creston, CA.
To go back to the beginning, she was born December 1, 1932 in the City of Angels, the youngest child of James and Emily Dougherty. (Siblings are the late Rosemary Sharp and James Dougherty Jr.)
A bright spot in her adolescence was when she met the dashing Donald Ashton, who had befriended her older brother. After Donald’s stint in the U.S. Navy, they married and would eventually be wed for 46 years until his death in 1999. The family supposes that Mrs. Ashton was greeted at the pearly gates with a “god-----t Linda, what took you so long?”
Though her childhood allowed her the chance to experience many different neighborhoods of Los Angeles, after marriage she moved to El Monte and then to Temple City, CA where she remained until 1987. Upon retirement, this city girl and her husband moved up to “the ranch” in Creston, CA where she remained for the rest of her years. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family and the many animals that passed through her life.
Linda is survived by her three daughters, Shelley (Michael) Salazar of South Pasadena, CA, Wendy (Christopher) McKenna of Springfield, PA and Sharon Morgan of Creston, CA. She will also be greatly missed by her 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, family member and friend, Glenn Morgan and her two constant companions, pups, Oreo and Cookie.
Linda was caring, kind and never met a stranger that she couldn’t or wouldn’t talk to plus, you never quite knew what she would say which was “entertaining.” She had a fondness for Elvis, Screwdrivers and America’s Got Talent. She made great tacos and gave great hugs. Her family was her world and she will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, send wine (just kidding), donate to your favorite animal charity or just raise a “Screwdriver” in her memory.
