Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, sister, and friend peacefully began her endless journey led by the angels on June 16, 2022, into the arms of her Lord. It is now that her love echoes in our hearts forever.
Sandy was born on July 26, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas to Elton and Ruth Williamson. This is where she grew up with her older brother Robert, and younger brother Elton.
She attended Thomas Jefferson High School where her classmates and circle of friends included singer artist Janis Joplin, former Dallas Cowboys football coach Jimmy Johnson, and actress Jobeth Williams. Shortly after, she met and married the love of her life, Willie Ray Payne on August 11, 1962.
With Willie being in the Coast Guard, they traveled and lived all over the United States. Together, they welcomed their three children Shanna, Lena, and Willie Ray Jr. raising their family and settling in La Porte, Texas. Sandy was a devoted wife, adoring mother, and marveled in all of her family’s accomplishments. She proved to be their pillar of strength even as her days grew tired. She was the most selfless person you’d ever meet, just her presence brought beauty to the simplest things in life. She always brought light and laughter to everyone’s lives.
Sandy is survived by her adoring and loyal daughter Shanna Camp, her caring daughter Lena Payne, and devoted and loving son Willie Ray Payne Jr.; granddaughters Cyndle Williams, and husband Kyle, Chelsey Begnaud and husband Derek, and Kendra Camp; great-granddaughter Logan Lynn Begnaud; brother Robert Williamson and wife Faye, sister-in-law Bonita Williamson; sister-in-law Brenda Vaningan and husband James; sisters-in-law Ellen Friesenhahn, Marilyn Payne; John Camp, father of her granddaughters, and Kelly Blair, step-father of her granddaughters; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband Willie Ray Payne, her parents, Elton and Ruth Williamson; her in-laws, John and Willie Mae Hooper, and brother Elton Williamson; brothers-in-law, Thomas Hilman Payne and Bernard Payne, along with sister-in-law Jane Payne.
Special thanks to her care team at Memorial Hermann and Hospice Plus throughout her courageous journey. Our memories of her are now our most cherished souvenirs.
