Ruth Caroline Burkhardt 97 passed away at her home in Cypress, Texas on May 27, 2022. She was a beloved and amazing wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, great- great grandmother and a dear friend.
She was born in West Allis, Wisconsin on November 27, 1924 to Walter William Wendorf and Lydia Augusta Wendorf. Ruth dropped out of school in the 10th grade to help her parents at their general store that they owned and to help cook and clean due to her Mother’s ailing health. Ruth and her sister Betty took tap dancing lessons as young girls and entertained at functions.
Ruth met and married Norman Burkhardt in her 20s and eventually they had seven children. She was an amazing cook, baker, awesome story- teller, seamstress and a very patient person.
She lived in Wisconsin until 1963 at which time the family moved to Texas where she met three of her dearest friends, Dolly Pourchot, Ann Cole and Carol Miertschin. They remained good friends with her until her passing, and I am sure they will be friends way beyond that.
Ruth loved to play Bingo, which she was very lucky at and she was a merciless card player who could easily beat you with one hand tied behind her back. She loved watching sports, tennis, golf, ice-skating, and cooking shows no matter what time of day or night, they came on.
Ruth was a very kind, giving, loving person who was always there if you ever needed help or just someone to talk to. Everyone who knew Ruth loved her and she loved them back unconditionally.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lydia Wendorf, her in-laws Henry and Caroline Burkhardt, her husband Norman Henry Burkhardt and her brothers and sisters, Leroy, Betty, Mary and Junior.
Ruth is survived by her seven children; Gary, Bonnie, Pat, Nancy, Donna, Dennis and Jeff. She has 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great- great grandchildren and by her cousin Marilyn.
A Memorial Service for Ruth Burkhardt will be held at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, 2203 Pasadena Blvd. in Pasadena, Texas from 3-6pm on Friday July 1, 2022.
