Robert R. “Sarge” Robinson (68) of Houston, TX passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010. He was born June 28, 1941 in Steubenville, OH. He was preceded in death by grandparents John and Katie McLaughlin, father Richmond Robinson and mother Essie McLaughlin Robinson, wife Betty J. Robinson and sister Essie Lea Featherston. Sarge is survived by sons John of Iola, TX and Joe and wife Beth of Lumberton, TX, grandchildren Sara, Cameron, Caytlin and Shelby, sister Paula of Spring, TX and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sarge was a 1959 graduate of Galena Park H.S. and proudly served in the US Army. He was Player Agent of Freeway Manor Little League and President of Freeway Manor Football League. Brother Robinson initiated into Plumbers Local Union 68 on April 12, 1965 as an apprentice and became a Texas Licensed Journeyman Plumber in September, 1969. From 1971 to 1995 he was an Instructor and served on Local 68’s Apprenticeship Committee. He was Assistant Director of Training from 1979 to 1981 when he became Director of Training until 1995. He was a United Association Instructor from 1992 to 1995. Sarge was elected Business Agent for Plumbers Local 68 in July of 1995 and has served as Business Manager since December of 1997. Other prestigious accomplishments during his elected terms as Business Manager were: Past International President of the American Society of Sanitary Engineering and current President of Southwest Pipe Trades Assn; Chairman of the Board for the Union Fidelity Federal Credit Union; Board Member for the Institute of Continuing Education; United Association Laws Committeeman and member of the UA Plumbing Council.
