Robert John Eagle

Robert John “Bob” Eagle, 63, of Pasadena, TX, died in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on January 5, 2014. Father and friend, companion and confidante, Bob’s kindness and warmth left a legacy that will be forever treasured by all those lucky enough to have known him.

Bob was born in Brooklyn in 1949, in the shadow of Ebbets Field. Because his mother worked for the Dodgers, one of his earliest memories was joining the Boys of Summer in their locker room celebrations when they won the pennant. It also planted the seed of his lifelong love of baseball.

Bob’s first journey was in 1956, when his parents, Alfred Thomas and Florence Helen (née Honeycomb) Eagle, moved the family to Cranford, New Jersey. Bob loved New Jersey, especially the shore, where he spent many childhood summers. However, he also had a love of service and travel, which led him to join the Coast Guard. When he received his honorable discharge four years later, he still yearned to seek the unknown. So he packed his bags and headed to Europe. There he found that what he was searching was a home, and that was back in Cranford.

In Cranford, Bob built a life befitting that bedroom community. He married Linda DiGiovanni, with whom he had two children, Tara Lyn and Katelyn Elizabeth. Bob spent his days working in sales, but he spent his nights with two of his great loves: his family and his music. A natural musician, Bob was a frequent sight at local pubs and other music venues where he sang and played guitar. Bob’s favorite—and most appreciative—audience was his children. Singalongs were always a possibility whenever Bob’s guitar was within his reach.

But Bob’s search was not over. A long-time employee of Camin Cargo Control, in 1992, Bob helped the company move from New Jersey to Pasadena, TX. Bob, recently divorced, moved with the company. There he married Constance Stafford and had two more children: Krystal Nicole and Kathleen Elizabeth. He also became stepfather to Felicia Lynn and Donald Stephen. Although that marriage also ended in divorce, he maintained his loving relationships with all of his children throughout his life.

Bob finally found what he was looking for when he discovered Christ and was reborn in 1996. He became an active congregant at Elim Church in Pasadena, where he was known for his fun and whimsical personality. Elim gave Bob fulfillment. He drew upon his musical experience in the church choir. He found his most satisfying profession, carpentry, and was most proud of his projects for the church. And through the church, he met the woman whom he would love and would love him for the rest of his life: Elba Puentes. And, as was typical of Bob, he loved her children, Magdaline, Jeremiah, and Ramiro, no less than he loved his others.

Bob was a loyal and understanding man, a man who loved his family and friends, and who was loved by them alike. In addition to the aforementioned, Bob is survived by his grandchildren, Haylee Kay Royal, Jayden Alexander Eagle-Gonzales and Peighton Stafford. Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Elim Church, 3200 S Richey St, Houston, TX 77017.
