Mickey Moon was born on July 18, 1926 in Commerce Texas. He was the second oldest of six children and the only boy in the bunch. In the 1930’s his father went to work for Humble Oil and Refinery in the oil patch. His father transferred around Texas with Humble and eventually settled in Friendswood. In 1944 Mickey joined the Marines to fight for his country in WWII. He was stationed in Japan after the surrender where he served until 1946.
He returned to Friendswood where he went to work for Humble as an oilfield “roust-a-bout.” His met, what was to be his wife, Scottie Robinett, and they were married in 1948. They had 3 children (Don, Connie, and Tim) and moved to the City of South Houston in 1957. Mickey became an electrician for Humble in 1963 and he was to work at that trade until he retired in 1987.
He and his wife, Scottie, bought a fifth wheel travel trailer after they retired and began travelling the country. They later bought a motor home and traveled in luxury for another five years, their last trip begin to Yellowstone National Park to celebrate fifty years of marriage.
Humble Oil and Refinery was a way of life for Mickey. Not only did his father work there, his wife’s father and grandfather and two of her uncle’s were Humble Oil Patch. Mickey also had two brother-in-laws that work for the Company.
Mickey’s hobby was wood working. Over the years he built furniture for his kids and grand kids. I believe his biggest woodworking achievement was the house in South Houston that he almost single handedly built and remodeled multiple time over a 55 year period.
Mickey has six grand children who love him very much: Sheri, Ben, Jessica, Alex, Taylor, and Mackenzie. He was a member of Genoa Methodist Church and has been a member since he was a child. This is a church that he loved and contributed to a great deal of his life.
Mickey is preceded in death by his Mother and father, Frances and Frank Moon, his wife Scottie and his daughter Connie Moon, four sisters: Betty Leleux, Belan Segura, Dorothy Seely, and Jerry Carrillo. He is survived by his oldest sister, Billie Oxner, his son and daughter-in-law Don and Frankie Moon, his son Tim and Lori Moon, and his six grandchildren, Sheri Moon Winklemann, Ben Moon, Jessica Moon Cross Lale, Alex Cross, Taylor Moon and Mackenzie Moon.
