Marvin Eugene Jones, 73, of Pasadena, TX, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018. He was born in Bryan, TX on November 2, 1944 to John Douglas and Cora Mae Jones. He was married to Joann Jones for 16 years and worked as a General Contractor for many years serving the community and many friends.
Marvin was a quietly passionate man. He loved to read, he never met a novel he did not like. He especially enjoyed detective stories and mysteries. Even the occasional western.
He loved his sons, all three. His stern air never quite able to hide his affection for them. He was tough on them. Very competitive, loyal and a great teacher. Having taught most of Pasadena how to play shuffleboard with both hands. He enjoyed fishing but had a true hatred for multi colored pasta, cold weather and Homer Simpson. He wouldn’t eat Butterfinger candy bars because they are Homer’s favorite.
Hours were spent with his father in the last year of his life, sitting quietly by his bedside, making sure he had everything he needed. He took his dad’s care seriously, it was his mission, with the older brothers gone, to step up and step in when he was needed. He remembered his mother with a mist of a tear in his eyes as he spoke of her taking hours of her time to make shirts for the boys, and “we wore them proudly” Marvin proclaimed.
Material possessions never defined Marvin. It was the relationships. The ones he talked to daily, ate chocolate pie and drank coffee with, or even shared a beer. That was what was important to him. This is the Marvin that will be remembered. Brash, bold, brave until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Douglas and Cora Mae Jones; elder brothers, John Douglas and Leroy Jones. He is survived by his brother, Mike; sons, Tommy, Robert and Marvin; their families which include 7 grandchildren, Amy, Brandon, Rebecca, Brian, Haley, Gianna and Tristan Jones. As well as 2 great grandchildren, Aubrey and Mason Holman; nieces Shelly and Ginger.
