Lee Merriman Flora was freed from the confines of this Earthly life on Friday May 17, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Lee was born to Ulysses Merriman Flora and Gladys Lucinda Johnstone on August 5, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio. Lee was their only child. Lee lived in Dayton until 1954.
Lee is predeceased by his parents and grandparents, first wife Anna Louise Schaaf, second wife Nelly Maria Martinez.
Lee served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Lee is survived by his daughter, Mary Schuster, son-in-law Steve Schuster, grand-daughter Melody Morris, three great grandsons and three great-great grandchildren.
Lee and Anna moved to Houston, Texas to find better work. They bought a home and settled in 1954.
Lee was a machinist by trade spending his career with Hughes Tool Company later Baker Hughes. During his retirement years, He and Nelly drove their RV to the Rio Grande Valley. They often stayed weeks at a time. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid storyteller. At home in the Houston area, they would frequent the restaurants and coffee shops on Spencer Highway. Many of the waitstaff would greet him by name. Lee was a very kind and sociable person.
Lee spent the last years of his life at the Greatwood Senior Living Center in Sugar Land, Texas. It is possible that he had met every person there and had befriended most. Lee’s upbeat view of life will be sorely missed.
