James is known for many things such as his kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends. You could find him at his “farm” having a cowboy lemonade and kicking back just shootin’ the bull. There wasn’t a person to cross his path that didn’t hear him speak fondly of that place. If you’re lucky, you even got to hear him talk about the value of the dollar, investing in silver, and even his favorite football team - the LSU Tigers. You found out quickly to not bring up politics and government as he wouldn’t shy away from sharing his opinions on those! But above all James was a hard-working and genuine man. He worked as a pipefitter and safety inspector for many years before retirement and even had the honor of being head of the union for workers in his field. He left an impression everywhere he went and with everyone that crossed his path. To say he was a loved and admirable man just is not enough.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Katy Smith; his children: Brandon Smith, Dana Landry, Deidre Woodward, Marli Neel, Eddie Castillo, Kelly Castillo, and Lina Castillo. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Mckinna Smith, Leslie Woodward, Wesley Woodward, Garret Landry, Peyton Landry, David Neel, Ellison Neel, Serena Castillo, Kori Gaines, Danielle Gaines, Dalen Gaines, Ava Von Kanel, and Lily Von Kanel.
A Memorial Celebration of James' life will be held Saturday, June 18th at 10:00AM in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home located at 8501 Spencer Highway Pasadena, TX.
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” Philippians 3:20-21
