James Carlton Russell

James 'Jim' Russell, 88, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away February 10, 2020. He was born in Pasadena, Texas, on September 27, 1931. He joined the Marines at 17 and was honorably discharged November, 1952 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service, he was introduced to his wife to be, Olive, by her brother, Howard, whom he met in Morse Code Operator school.

He bought a car and drove to Pennsylvania after being discharged. There he proposed to Olive and they were married January 23, 1953. Later that year, they moved back to Texas where they started their family. They were married 62 years before Olive passed away. Jim always said Olive was his first girlfriend and his only love. As far as anyone can remember, they never left the house without kissing goodbye.

Jim worked for Crown Petroleum for 35 years. He was a member of The American Legion and The Moose. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed cards and dominoes.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Olive; parents Carlton and Bertha Nickel Russell; brothers and sisters Robert Russell, Virgil Russell, Delpha McLaughlin, Dalton Russell.

Jim is survived by his children Diana Conrad and husband Rick, Linda Grimes, and James Michael Russell and wife, Sue; grandchildren Jason Russell, John Grimes, Shawn Grimes and wife Amanda, Mandy Sumpter and husband Guy, Micheal Biddy, Jennifer Pritchard and spouse Courtney, Jamie Byrd and husband Sean; great grand children Leann, Tyler and Cody Sumpter, Austin Jarvis, Christopher and Jessica Biddy, Brianna Taylor, Samantha Byrd; and great great grandchildren Logan John and Mason James Sumpter; and sister Lola Thornton.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2020, from 4-8 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, TX 77505. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at noon also at Grand View Funeral Home. Interment to follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park, 14659 East Frwy, Houston, TX. 77015.
