In 1964 Harvey moved to Houston and was employed with Brown and Root Construction before opening T & E Used Cars in 1972 with his business partner, Mike Trumble, Sr. in South Houston, TX. The two went on to partner in other business ventures such as T & E Crushed Stone, The Whispering Pines and Eastex Dragway. After many successful years in business, he decided to retire in the late 1990’s to spend more time traveling to race tracks across the country.
Harvey was a long time NHRA Division 4 Drag Racer whose drag racing career began in the early 1960’s and continued up until his passing. His love of the sport was evident by his actions and people he helped over the years. One of Harvey’s greatest racing achievements came when he was inducted into the NHRA Division 4 Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Emmie Emmons; brothers, Sonny and Eugene Emmons; sister, Shirley Glover; and his first born daughter, Carolyn Ann Emmons.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Martha McMillan Emmons; 4 sons, Harvey “Speedy” Emmons III and his wife Paula, Terry Emmons, Jerry Emmons and wife Shauna and Gary Emmons; 3 daughters, Laura Ann Allen, Brenda Faye Hebert, C.J. Hendon and husband Henry; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Kathy Martin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, TX 77505. A Celebration of Life will follow on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Interment Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, TX.
