Frank is survived by his wife of 25 years, Doris Merrill. His sister Clara Dortch and her husband James of Bedice, Texas, Sister, Jean Peterson of Pasadena Texas, Brother, Darrell Merrill of Houston, Texas, Daughter, LaVerne Roese and her husband Dennis of LaPorte, Texas. Son, Frank Merrill Jr. and his wife Janet of Angleton, Texas. Daughter, Sherry Merrill of Pearland, Texas. Son, Gary Merrill and Angela of Pasadena, Texas. Step-daughter, Julie Roberts and Robert Costa of Lufkin, Texas. Step-daughter Jenifer Watson and her husband John of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren: Chase Merrill, Caise Richburg, Samantha Want, Jessie Puffen, Joseph Scott, Kevin Roberts, Cameron Watson, Jerry Roberts, Sarah Brandt and Dillon Watson. Many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and extended family.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Myrtle Merrill, brother Gary Merrill, Sister Barbara McClary, Sister Claudia Baker and granddaughter Britny Merrill.
Frank was born on July 30, 1932 in Houston, Texas to parents Fred and Myrtle. He enlisted in the United States Army at age 17, where he served and fought in the Korean War. After leaving the military, he went into the Marine Transportation Industry where he became an accomplished Tow Boat Captain working for Western Towing, B&M Towing, Dixie Carriers and finally retiring in 2003 from Kirby Inland Marine. Even in retirement, Frank continued working running his own business, “Franks Hot-Shot” Company another decade.
Frank was member of the South Houston Masonic Lodge and reached the level of Scottish Rite. Frank was passionate about spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed hunting, watching old westerns, and just sitting and chatting on the front porch.
Frank’s funeral is scheduled for Thursday, December 20th, 2018 at Grand View Funeral Home at 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Visitation is from 9:30am to 10:30am and the service is at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery at 12:45am at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, Texas 77038.
A reception will be held with family and friends at LaVerne and Denis Roese’s home at 1121 Robinson Rd. LaPorte, Texas 77571 at 5:00pm. Everyone is welcome.
