Edward John Stiehl departed this life at the age of 80, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend to many on July 2, 2017. Edward was born November 18, 1936 in Port Arthur, Texas to Edward John Stiehl Sr and Ettavee Hightower Stiehl Deloache.
In 1952 at the age of 15 Edward got his first part time job after school and weekends at an independent gas and service station in Texarkana, Texas. Back in the 50’s these gas stations had full service for vehicles. Edward has told the story of washings 19 cars on “one” Saturday. He sold gas for 19 cents a gallon and he was paid 50 cents an hour.
On July 1954 Edward and his family moved to Raywood, Texas where Edward worked another part time job at Humble Oil and Gas service station in Liberty, Texas. After graduating high school in 1956 Edward became manager at this job where he sold gas for 26 cents a gallon, working 10 to 12 hours a day for 75 dollars a week.
In September of 1954 Edward entered high school as a junior at Hull Daisetta, Texas where he was a running back #22 for the Hull Daisetta Bobcats football team. Edward graduated from Hull Daisetta High School May 18, 1956.
Edward was employed at Shell Chemical in April 1957 and worked there until he was drafted into the Army in January 1961.
In 1958 – 1959 Edward attended Lee College in Baytown Texas where he took a night course in business administration while still employed with Shell Chemical.
January 18, 1961 Edward was drafted into the United States Army he took 8 weeks basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. After basic training, he was sent to Fort Monmount, New Jersey for 3 months for signal school training from there he was sent to Huntsville Alabama where he attended Hawk Missile Internal Guidance School at Red Stone Arsenal Military Army Base.
Edward and his dad Edward Sr. served in the Army and were stationed in Germany at the same time. His Father Edward Sr retired after 30 years of service from the Army. Edward was stationed at Musew, Germany and was discharged on January 7, 1963.
After Edward returned home from the Army he was employed by Retzloff Chemical in January 1963 in Almeda, Texas and worked there until December of 1965. Edward applied for employment at Lubrizol Corporation and was accepted, he was employed at Lubrizol Corporation starting on December 6, 1965 where he quickly obtained the nickname “Fast Eddie” Edward took much pride in his job, he started as a operator, was promoted to production foreman in 1976, he was also assigned to the training department in 1985 as a co-editor of the first Deer Park Operators Training Manual, as well as teacher who taught the class at San Jacinto College in 1986. Edward was promoted to Production Supervisor in 1988. Edward was a very devoted employee of Lubizol, he was honored with a retirement party on February the 11, 1999 at the Deer Park Plant. After saying “good bye” to his co-workers and his last Lubrizol work day was completed he had worked a total of 34 years before retiring. Edward left with a wave of good bye in a white stretch limo to begin the next phase of his life as a retiree after 34 years at Lubrizol.
Edward’s first priority was his family and home, he was a wonderful cook and loved to fish. He also had a lake house where he could spend time with his family. He loved sports “Houston Oilers” and now the Texans, he also enjoyed a friendly game of any type of poker and was good at it.
Edward loved his animals, Tiki and Gypsy they were his buddies. Edward also had a green thumb when it came to growing a beautiful crop of tomato’s each year in a 5-gallon bucket.
Edward was a member of the Lubizol Legends Retiree Associations also a member of the Moose Lodge #1721, member of the American Legend and past member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Baptist faith.
Edward was preceeded in death by his parents Ettavee and Edward Stiehl Sr., stepfather Richard T Delocache, brother William “Bill” Stiehl, step brother William Bill Deloache. He is survived by and left to cherish his memories his wife of 36 years Patsy Jane Stiehl, two daughters Natalie Stiehl of Pasadena Texas, Sheri Berry of Pasadena Texas, 2 sons John Kelly of Pasadena Texas, and Michael Kelly Pasadena, Texas, sister Mareitta Phillips and husband Donald of Santa Fe Texas, 4 grandchildren Larry Dale Johns and wife April , Kolton Brothers and friend Bethanie Nabors, Jackson Mobley and Koven Mobley, 3 great grandchildren, Larry Dean Johns, Caden Johns, and Faith Brothers, as well as nieces and nephews and a host of friends .
Sunshine fades and shadows fall, but sweet remembrance out last all, sweet dreams Edward you will always be in our hearts.
Graveside will be at Grandview Funeral Home on Spencer Hwy Pasadena, Texas
