Dorothy (Dot) Belle Collins, 88, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 in La Porte, Texas. Dorothy was born on June 16, 1935 in Camden, Mississippi to Claude + Margaret Peterson. Dorothy married James Collins on September 11, 1954. They were blessed with 2 children; Vicki Lyn Collins Barker + James Randall Collins (Randy). Dorothy was a homemaker raising the children + volunteering at their schools in PTA, being room mothers helping on Randy's baseball team as the team moms, helping with Vicki's Brownie + Girl Scout troops, and coaching Bantam + Jr Bowling Leagues.
Later Dorothy went to work part-time at the Pasadena Citizen Newspaper in the late 70s to early 80s, but was still a full time mom, wife, and grandmother. Dorothy loved to crochet, sew, bowl, work on jigsaw puzzles, bake, and read. She loved spoiling her grandchildren!
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Margaret Peterson, her sisters Mary Elizabeth Peterson & Jessie Bushnell, brothers Bill, Bobby, Paul, George, and Donny Peterson. Her granddaughter Donna Olive, grandson Chase Reeder, and great grandson Stephen Davis.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Vicki Collins Barker and husband Stephen of Pasadena, Texas, son James Randall (Randy) Collins and wife Yolanda of Deer Park, Texas. Grandchildren Sherry Barker Bergeron and husband James, Tasha Barker Walker and husband Paul, Joshua Barker and wife Amber, Randee Collins and Colten Collins. Great grandchildren Bailee, Dustin, Hailey, Ashlee, Shania, Paeton, Kyley, Ty, Tucker, Suzie-Lou, Aria, & Sophia Grace. Great great grandchildren Soli, Rhett, and Sophia Elizabeth. Sisters Betty Miller, Marilyn Cunningham, Debby Akard, Inez Collins. Brothers Sammy and Johnny Peterson and numerous nieces & nephews.
Dorothy loved her family. She loved collecting angels, cookie jars, watching the Astros, and the Rockets with her husband James with a big bowl of popcorn for them to share.
You will be missed by your family, but we know you are happy now, you are with Dad now.
