Derrick was born on December 23,1977 in Pasadena Tx, he attended Deer Park High School and graduated from La Porte High School in 1996. Derrick was an avid runner. He ran for Deer Park and Laporte High Schools lettering each year.
He was a distance runner, qualified 3 years for regional cross country in high school and ran on the Colby College Cross country team in Kansas, which finished 3rd at Nationals and second place in distance medley.
He was on the 2-mile relay team at Texas Relays finishing second. He ran for the Al Lawrence running club for numerous races often finishing in the top of his age group. He was the under 20 champion in the Texas Ten mile (54:42). Later in life, he completed the Houston Marathon at age 41, (2hr55min12sec) earning him a trip to the Boston Marathon.
Derrick completed 5 years of the IBEW/NJATC Electrical apprentice program in 2004 with a Journeyman License. He worked for Wayne Electric, Zachry and Exxon. Derrick spent 13 years with Exxon Mobil as an Electrical Supervisor.
Derrick and Amber were wed on November 17, 2012. Derrick was the father to three beautiful children and was a true family man. They enjoyed trips to Colorado, Oregon, cruises and camping in their RV with friends and family. Boating was a new passion that he loved and shared with Amber and the kids. Derrick really enjoyed life, always ready with a joke and a smile. He was known for dressing up at Halloween each year as he went through the neighborhood with the kids.
Derrick is survived by his loving wife Amber, son; Trevor and daughters; Alyson and Skylar. His father John McDaniel (Shirley). Mother Judy Callaway (William). Sisters: Nikki Bell (Michael); Katie Hernly (Ryan) Meranda McDaniel (Derrick) Brothers; Jason Simons (Jeannie), Randy Callaway and; Sister in-laws Kristen Eakes (Bo), Emily Jones. Aunt; Josette Williams. Cousins; Sam and Ben Williams and 4 nieces, 7 nephews.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents John and Helen McDaniel Sr.
