Debra Benson

Debby was born October 15, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. Debby moved to Pasadena, TX in 1958 with her family and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1968. While in high school, Debby met the love of her life, Ronnie Benson, and they spent 56 years working together as they built their family. Married on May 20, 1972, Debby and Ronnie raised two sons: Ronnie (born 1979) and Austin (born 1982). After graduating from the University of Houston, Debby went on to a successful career with Exxon, where she met many lifelong friends and was able to travel to places such as Bangkok, Paris, London, and Buenos Aires among other cities.

Debby was passionate about cooking, reading, and quilting. She could spend hours at a time doing any of these activities. She could cook with the best and could never put down a good book. Debby enjoyed making quilts for her family, adorning each newborn in the family with their own personalized quilt. But above all, Debby enjoyed every minute she could spend with her family. She loved being “Nana” and adored her grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, proud of each of them, and always made each one feel special.

Debby was always vibrant, full of life and to know her was to love her. With one smile she could melt the hardest heart. Her laugh was contagious, and it filled the room and captivated anyone who heard it. She always brought love and joy to those around her and always saw the best in people. Debby’s natural kindness and genuine love impacted the lives of so many. She will be forever missed and always loved.

Debby never shied away from a challenge, even when faced with the fight of her life. She showed insurmountable bravery while always finding a way to stay positive and upbeat. Her ability to handle even the most difficult situation taught those around her lessons in courage, faith, perseverance, strength, and love.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Ronnie; children: Austin and wife Leanne, Ronnie and wife Kim; grandchildren: Cole Benson, Collin Benson, Lainey Benson, and Wyatt Benson; siblings: Christine Poteet and husband Charlie, Paul Furman and wife Susan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Debby was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Brihida Furman (and step-mother Elsie (Chi Chi) Skeahan); and sister, Mary Beth Furman.

Debby’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her hospice nurse, Amy, for the kindness and care given to Debby during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite cancer charity in Debby Benson’s name.

A visitation for Debra will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
