David O. Garner, Jr. 74 of Houston, Texas transitioned peacefully on April 12, 2018. He will be remembered by his kindred spirit, good sense of humour and his compassion for others. David made it a point to connect on a personal level and he showed it by giving everyone a nickname. As the patriarch and historian of the family, he instilled our core family values and above all “Big Daddy” loved all of his grandchildren dearly. A few of his favorite pastimes were listening to good music, dancing, fishing, feeding wildlife, photography and fixing his “blue goose “ the 1967 Chevelle. He served nearly (12) twelve years in the United States Army and was honourably discharged in 1973. After twenty plus years of dedicated service to the Houston Independent School District, David Garner retired as Superintendent of Transportation.
David is survived by his wife of (48) forty eight years, Willetta Garner; Five (5) children; Stephanie Picklesimer, Felicia Prince, Theapplous Prince, Dewan Garner; and La Don Garner and twelve (12) grandchildren and nine (9) great grandchildren; siblings: Dwight Garner, Beverly Garner, Michael
Garner, Evelyn Porter and host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, April 22nd at 2:30-3:30 pm, with visitation hours from 2:00-6:00 pm at Grandview Funeral Home 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Monday, April 23rd at 12:30 pm the burial services will be held at National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77038.
