“Like a bird from prison bars has flown” Cheryl Kay Davis was set free from her earthly body and entered into the glorious presence of Jesus, her Savior on Sunday morning, January 29, 2023. No doubt, dancing and singing all the way! Kay was born in Savannah, GA on June 30, 1954 to Claude J. and Juanita Hill. Along with her older brother Bill, the family moved to Texas in 1956. She graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena in 1972 and married her husband, Chuck on July 31, 1976. Never having children but desiring them so, she loved all babies and children, dogs, cats, birds and all animals in general. Growing up, Kay was always in charge if Mama had to leave the house and could be quite bossy. She was a very good cook and among her special dishes was her grandmother’s recipe for Cherry Nut Bars and a restaurant-worthy cheesecake. She loved to dance and sing but spent the last 7-1/2 years of her life in a nursing home; bed-bound, and unable to speak, yet brought joy to all who came in contact with her (usually) never forgetting what our mother taught: always be polite. Kay is preceded in death by husband Charles E. (Chuck) Davis, father Claude Hill, mother Juanita Hill and niece Dovie Hill. She will be sorely missed by brother William V. (Bill) Hill and wife Anna, sister Diane Schnee and husband Donnie, brother Glenn Hill and wife Terri; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in both Texas and Georgia and elsewhere. To all those in hospitals or nursing homes who cared well for our sister, thank you.
