Charles B. Spicer, Jr. (Charlie), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2010 in Montgomery, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Booker Spicer, Sr. and Addie Wills Neal Spicer; his brothers, Neal, Philip and Hugh and sister Sarah.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Frankie Ann Coburn Spicer; son Charles B. Spicer, III and wife Patrice and grandchildren, Justin, Gregory, Daniel, Sarah Jane, Patrick; son James F. Spicer (Pete) and wife Cami, grandchildren Jamie, Cameron, Erin; son John Neal Spicer and wife Cara grandson Charlie, daughter Addie Ann Spicer and husband Brian Tamplen; brothers, John S. Spicer and wife Bucky of Frederick, MD, William Spicer and wife Barbara, and Oscar Spicer and wife Barbara of Gettysburg, PA, Ed Spicer and wife Naomi of Dickinson, TX.
Charlie was born on January 19, 1922 in Jefferson, North Carolina. He attended University of Tennessee and the University of Texas Law School. In 1942, Charlie was drafted where he was assigned to the 15th Air Force. Charlie and his B24 crew flew 37 sorties, 13 of which were for double credit. One of the more memorable flights was a sortie where their B24 received a bomb (from another B24) through the wing. Later he received his wings and the rank of Captain.
Charlie established a law practice in Pasadena, Texas and continued practicing there until retirement in 1987. He was the city attorney for South Houston for many years. Charlie was also involved in the sugarcane business in the valley. He was a member of the Pasadena Rotary Club where he served as President in 1971. He was also very active with the Boy Scouts of America, member of First United Methodist Church in Pasadena and member of Golfcrest Country Club.
Charlie was a very devout family man and cherished the time spent with his family. He passed on his love of the outdoors to his family. Many fond memories were made in Colorado and the “woods” where his entertaining story telling prevailed.
The family will receive friends for visitation between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Grand View Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010 at First United Methodist Church Pasadena – 1062 Fairmont Pkwy. Pasadena, TX 77504.
