It is with heavy hearts we share the passing on October 24, 2023 of Major Ronald John Barnett (Retired) at the age of 92 years. Ronald was Predeceased by his loving wife, Anna E. Barnett (Betty) and is survived by son, Richard; daughter, Carole; granddaughters, Trisha & Mary and great granddaughters, Lux & Wre; as well many other family members and friends.
Dad was very proud of his Military Service and in his retirement years enjoyed dog showing his beloved Dachshunds, building and operating model railroad layouts and his lifelong passion of wood and metal working in his shop. Dad was truly a very skilled and talented man who was curious about how things worked and together with Mom instilled in us kids that same curiosity and wonder about life in general and we will be forever grateful. Over the last 4 ½ years while Dad was living in Port Alberni he greatly enjoyed his time going to the Quay for coffee and conversation at the Donut Shop, Old Time Fiddlers music in Centennial Square and Big Daddy Friday evenings street dances. Tuesday afternoons were a big deal for him as we went to the Legion to enjoy the music/dancing and all the new acquaintances that he made there.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and caring Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Vancouver Island Health Authority Hospital / Home Care as well Ty Watson House in making Dad feel at ease and comfortable in his final weeks.
Dad will be lovingly remembered and missed by all, and in keeping with Dads wishes no service will be held. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared on Ron’s Tribute wall.
