Robert D. Suck, 77, of Parkersburg, passed away on January 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 21, 1940 in Silverton, WV to the late Lawrence and Kathrine Suck. He graduated from PHS in 1958, then joined the US Marine Corp Reserves and served for 8 years.
For 34 years he drove tractor trailers accident free. He worked for Bell trucking, Cook Motor Line, Carolina Freight, AGA, and was an owner operator of RDS Trucking. He retired in 2002 from ABF Freight. He was a member of the WV Trucking Association. He participated in many truck rodeos where he won several state and national championship titles. He also enjoyed farming. As a child and young adult, he worked on the family dairy farm. After retirement he would lend a hand at Fulton Farms in Waterford, Ohio. He is also a former member of the ELKS Club.
He had attended and studied the Bible at the South Parkersburg Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. He looked forward to the Bibles promise of an end to sickness and death, and to the hope of a resurrection to life on a paradise earth.
He is survived by his soul mate and best friend, his wife of 57 ½ years, Kathleen “Kathie” Cunningham Suck. Additionally, he is survived by his two daughters Robin Staats (Chuck) of Walker, WV and Renna Rankin (Matthew) of Belpre, OH. He had four grandchildren, Chad Staats (Tara) of Mineral Wells, WV, Cole Staats (Allison) of Parkersburg, WV, Tabitha Thomas (Wesley) of Marietta, OH, and Tiffini Wallenhorst (Zachary) of Westlake, OH. He also had two great-grandchildren Brayden Thomas and Olivia Wallenhorst. The family dog, Precious, was his companion for the past 10 years. Special family friends include Brian Chancellor of Iowa, Jimmy Deem of Mineral Wells, WV, and Steve Goodnight of Parkersburg, WV, who has been a big help to the family. He is also survived by 2 brothers, 3 aunts, and several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his in-laws Gilbert and Juanita Cunningham.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Phillip Washington officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday January 26, 2018 at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
