Paul is survived by his daughter Stacy Mead and grandson Axel Stewart; his father Peter Hewitt; sister Andrea Hewitt Sanders, brother Martin Hewitt, brother Jonathan Hewitt, brother Michael Hewitt, sister Joanna Hewitt Ochoa; his brother-in-law Rick Sanders who always stepped-up to provide Paul with care and friendship; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many lifelong friends that were so dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Heather Hewitt.
Quite literally, Paul was born a Saint. His mother must have known from the start that he was going to be a handful and needed that extra grace. He was feisty, competitive, stubborn, and full of wit! He was also charismatic, giving, and loved with his whole heart, even if he didn't always know how to show it.
Paul served his country in the United States Army and continued to protect and serve in his career. He worked for California Youth Authority early on and ended his career in corrections.
In his free time, Paul knew how to have fun! Oh, how he loved to gamble. Laughlin was a favorite getaway where he could play the slots and on the river. Scratchers filled the time between visits to the casinos. Paul was no stranger to horse races or sports betting either. He loved football and his team, the 49ers, made it to the Superbowl just last year. Paul loved to fish and ride motorcycles, on or off road. His Harley was a prized possession. He fondly shared memories of his trips to June Lake and to Mexico. And in true character, he said everything was better with a drink.
Paul will be truly missed by those who loved him. Don't let his passing be just another day. Continue to share his memories, bet his numbers, and celebrate his life.
