James Carlton Ward, 70, of Powderly, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at his home. The family has scheduled memorial services for 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 22nd., at Living Word Assembly of God Church, 3515 Bonham St., Paris, with Bro. Kelly Adams and Rev. Kevin Ward officiating. Cremation was under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Mr. Ward, the son of James Loyd “Bill” & Betty Wickersham Ward, was born Aug. 1, 1946, in Antlers, OK. He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 – 1972, during the Vietnam Era. He then continued serving in the United States Army Reserves until 1975. His career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company spanned twenty-nine years before his retirement. James was an avid hunter. He was a member of Bass Masters and a life member of the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Betty Ward, a step-daughter, Peggy Short, and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, J. B. & Juanita Foreman. Survivors include his wife, Betty Foreman Ward, whom he married on June 9, 1980, building thirty-six years of family and memories, a son, Drew Ward of Powderly, three step-children, Dale Burris & wife Michelle of Pattonville, Annette Burris of Broken Bow, OK, and Stephen Burris & wife Melissa of Powderly, grandchildren, Chelsea Burnette, Hunter Burris, Aaron Burris, Monica Nabors, Hannah Nabors, Hagen Burris, Paige Burris and Anna Ward, two great grandchildren, Alyssa Burnette and Alysson Burnette, siblings, Carolyn Dookeen of Arlington, Pat Tatum of Wynnewood, OK, and Kevin Ward of Finley, OK along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
